Hercules

Hercules

We actually felt a bit sorry for Hercules as he has always been a bit of a wayward chap. However, once settled in his new enviroment, he was soon back to his old tricks! Our maintenance man, Petros, was doing some work in the shelter when Hercules decided he really wanted Petros to stay and play with him and wouldn't let him out! A groom came to the rescue and ofcource Hercules gave him the look of 'it wasn't me'!

Beau

Beau

Beau, being the cheeky monkey he is, thought it would be great to join forces with Hercules and upset the neighbourhood by careering arround and generally being a couple of nuisances! They also found it fun to annoy Chloe who was not impressed in the slightest. Boys eh?!

Lonnie & Ben

Ben

Lonnie and Ben, were much more sensible. After the initial nose sniffing and checking out the new guys, they left the others to their disputes and headed off to the new dirt area we have provided and made the most of having plenty of room to have a good roll, get dirty, and go for a canter. Two happy boys!

Lorraine

Lorraine

Lorraine, being the eternal lady ofcource, chose to ignore all of the 'loutish behaviour' and watched from the sidelines. However, there were one or two occasions when she did put her foot down when it all got a bit too much for her. Well done Lorraine!

Chloe

Chloe

Chloe, who was already in the paddock, behaved like a real diva when Hercules joined her! She insisted that she was the boss in the paddock and decided that Hercules needed to know this. Ears back and pulling a face at him, she was adamant he would learn his place in the 'pecking order'!! This worked for a few weeks until all the other donkeys got bored with her behaviour and decided to ignore her!

Adoption update

Thanks to being able to move some of donkeys, we’ve now got all the Super Six together in the same paddock! This has made it much better for our visitors and the group are all getting along well.

Beau

Hercules

Hercules

Hard to believe but Herc, as we call him, will be 7 years old on June 6th this year. Believe it or not he has grown up a tiny little bit but there is still a long way to go! He still loves to run off with things – usually the head collar you want to catch him with. Although he is vey good at picking up rakes and brooms we still haven’t managed to persuade him to use them to help us clean up!

Lorraine

Lorraine

Bless her, she is such a sweetie. She has such a lovely kind face and very well behaved for her fans when they come to visit. Lorraine has even managed to lose a bit of weight and is maintaining it, despite her paddock pal Lonnie opening the feed room door! She is 20 years old now so has technically become a ‘geriatric’ which we don’t think is becoming to her at all. As Lorraine is getting older her dapple grey coat is gradually getting whiter – the drawback is that any dirt marks show up more. We know she won’t like that!

Lonnie

Lonnie

Just like Ben, Lonnie always gives the impression that he never does anything he shouldn’t. It’s always the quiet ones isn’t it? It’s little things like finding the feed room door open in the morning (more than once) which means the staff get blamed for not shutting the door! We’ve got a feeling he might be working with Beau on this as they both stand there with that ‘It wasn’t me’ look on their faces.

Ben

Ben

Dear Ben really is Butter Wouldn’t Melt – until you find out he has been up to something! We didn’t know what caused it but poor chap had some tummy trouble earlier in the year and our vet had to give him some intravenous fluids. We put him in one of our hospital boxes for a few days of treatment and TLC and we are pleased to say he is back to his normal self.
